China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) recently revealed a joint purchase program for about one million CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting) terminals in 2009 so as to stimulate the development of multifunctional CMMB terminals, Chinanews reported quoting the director of SARFT's Science and Technology Department. CMMB is an indigenous mobile television and multimedia standard developed in China by the SARFT. Meanwhile, according to the Chinanews report, SARFT projects the CMMB coverage to extend to 100 Chinese cities by year-end 2008. The SARFT's new estimate represents a significantly reduced scale from the previously planned coverage of 324 Chinese cities by July 2008.
